Our removal companies know the city's unique moving challenges inside out.
If parking is tight outside your property, do not leave this until the week before. Glasgow City Council says parking suspensions and dispensations need advance approval, and without one the removal company you choose may end up parking much further away or risking a fine. That matters most on tenement streets, where an extra half-block can add a lot of time once the van is loaded. If access outside is difficult, raise it when you book so the company can tell you what needs arranging and what the back-up plan should be.
Glasgow now enforces pavement parking, double parking and dropped-kerb parking, with penalty charges of up to £100 reduced to £50 if paid early. That means even a quick unload on a tight street can go wrong if the van is not parked properly. If there is not enough legal space outside, it is far better to sort a suspension, a dispensation, or a nearby legal bay in advance than assume the driver can “just pull up” for a few minutes.
Glasgow’s council-run car parks are cashless, so if your move may need a council surface site or a back-up stopping point, sort that before the van arrives. The council’s parking page says car parks are cashless and links to RingGo for payment. That is a small detail, but it matters if the move runs long or the first stopping place does not work out. If you are moving into the city centre, it is worth having a legal back-up option ready rather than trying to sort payment while unloading has already started.
If your move is near Ibrox, Celtic Park, or the main routes around them, check the fixture list before you settle on a date. Glasgow has been developing event-day parking controls around major venues, and matchdays already make roads and parking much harder to work with in those parts of the city. If you cannot avoid the date, an early morning slot usually gives your removal company the best chance of getting in and out before traffic and restrictions tighten up.
