Apply for parking permission as soon as you book your removal company if you’re moving on or near Parade, Warwick Street, Regent Street, Bath Street, or High Street. Warwickshire County Council charges £60 for a bay suspension, plus £15 per day per space in pay-and-display bays, and applications must be made at least seven days before the move. Central streets can look close on a map but still leave movers carrying from a paid bay, side street, or restricted loading point. Ask your removal company whether they need a suspended bay, a dispensation, or a constant loading stop before they quote.
Don’t send a Luton van into St Peter’s Multi Storey on Augusta Place, as the height limit is 2.05m. Warwick District Council car parks also have a 3.5 tonne weight restriction, so they’re not a waiting area for a removal lorry. The Covent Garden car park area has also been changing, so don’t assume old parking advice is still reliable. Treat car-parking advice and removal-van access as different things, then agree the loading point before move day.
Book a non-market weekday morning if you’re moving near Parade, Warwick Street, Dormer Place, Holly Walk, or Pump Room Gardens. The regular market runs on Holly Walk on Fridays from 10am to 4pm, and Covent Garden Quarter markets use Warwick Street on the last Sunday of the month from January to September. The Lantern Parade has previously closed Dormer Place, Bedford Street, and Warwick Street from 4pm to 7pm, which is exactly when late key handovers can leave movers waiting. Pride, the Food and Drink Festival, and Art in the Park can also make central loading harder around Pump Room Gardens, Jephson Gardens, and nearby car parks, so avoid those dates if your move depends on stopping close to the door.
Measure stairs, landings, and shared entrances before move day if you’re moving into a converted house, flat above a shop, shared house, or upper-floor period property. Central and south Leamington have a high number of flats, conversions, and HMOs, so the hard part is often the carry from the van, the turn into the hallway, or the final stair run. South Leamington, Sydenham, Whitnash, and student shared houses can still be awkward if the van has to stop and carry from a restricted street or crowded kerb. Send photos to your movers before they quote so they can allow enough time, people, and equipment.
Share the property size, full address, floor level, parking distance, and whether there are stairs, lifts, tight landings, or shared entrances. Tell the movers if the van can stop outside or if they’ll need a bay suspension through Warwickshire County Council. Include packing, dismantling, storage, and any fragile or heavy items, such as mirrors, wardrobes, pianos, or large appliances. The more access detail you provide, the less likely your quote is to change on moving day.
Look for movers who ask about access before giving you a price. In central Leamington, that means checking parking, loading, stairs, and whether streets like Parade, Warwick Street, or Bath Street need extra planning. For flats and converted houses, ask how they’ll protect communal areas and whether the quote allows enough time for longer carries. Compare reviews, insurance, availability, and what’s included before you book.
Book as soon as you have a likely moving date, especially if you’re aiming for a Friday, the end of the month, or a student changeover period. You’ll need at least seven days if your move needs a Warwickshire County Council bay suspension. Central moves can also be affected by markets and events, so early booking gives you more time to change the loading plan if needed. Let your movers know quickly if your completion date changes.
Many movers offer packing services, but check what’s included before you book. Mention mirrors, artwork, antiques, electronics, glass furniture, musical instruments, or anything that needs specialist wrapping. If items need carrying through shared halls or upper-floor stairs, ask how they’ll be protected on the way out. Make sure packing materials, labour, and insurance are clearly shown in the quote.
