Ancoats is Manchester’s most popular area for movers, with 7.8% of people moving to the city choosing the neighbourhood.
Konnect You analysed Manchester moving data to see where people are choosing to buy or rent. Ancoats came out on top, followed closely by Didsbury, Worsley, Hulme and the City Centre.
Didsbury, Worsley and Chorlton have all seen strong growth, showing that demand is spreading across well-connected areas beyond the city centre.

Data taken from Konnect You users, Rightmove and ONS.
Ancoats has become one of Manchester’s strongest residential hotspots. Its central location, new homes, food and drink scene, and links into the city centre have made it popular with both renters and buyers.
Nearly 8% of Manchester movers chose Ancoats, putting it just ahead of Didsbury. It also saw a 10.1% rise in people moving there from outside Manchester, suggesting its appeal is reaching beyond the city.
Where Demand Is Rising
Chorlton recorded the largest annual increase in the study, with 44.6% more movers choosing the area. Denton also saw strong growth at 36.1%, while Worsley rose by 25.8%.
These increases suggest movers are looking at a wider mix of Manchester neighbourhoods. Some are choosing established areas such as Didsbury and Chorlton, while others are moving towards places that may offer better value.
Dave Sayce, Co-Founder and Managing Director, said:
“Ancoats, once a heavily industrial part of Manchester, has undergone a major transformation in recent years and is now one of the city’s most desirable residential areas. Thanks to its central location, it has also become a hotspot for property investors.
“We have seen a rise of more than 10% in people moving to Ancoats from outside Manchester. This increase in external demand will have a noticeable impact on both the buying and rental markets.
“For anyone living in, or planning to move to, Ancoats, it is important to be aware that property prices and rents are likely to increase over the coming year.”
What the Data Shows
Ancoats may be the most popular area overall, but the wider picture is more varied. Didsbury is almost as popular despite having the highest average house price and rent in the top 10. Chorlton, Denton and Worsley are seeing the sharpest growth.
For people planning a move in Manchester, the data shows why it is worth looking beyond one headline location. Price, rent, transport, lifestyle, property type and long-term affordability can all shape which area feels right.
