Central Reading is still the most popular area for home-movers, with 23.4% of people moving to Reading choosing the town centre.
Konnect You analysed moving data from more than 1,100 people who relocated to Reading. Central Reading came out on top, followed by Caversham, Whitley, West Reading and Aldermaston.
But the strongest growth is happening outside the centre, with Caversham, Twyford and several surrounding areas seeing sharp rises in demand.

Central Reading attracts the largest share of home-movers by some distance.
Its average house price is £332,375, making it one of the more affordable places to buy in the top 10. It also gives home-movers direct access to the station, shops, restaurants and local services.
Even so, demand has softened slightly, with mover numbers down 4.4%.
Where Demand Is Rising
Twyford saw the strongest growth, with mover demand rising by 51.0%. Caversham also saw a sharp increase of 41.9%.
West Reading, Goring & Streatley, Aldermaston and Tilehurst all recorded strong annual growth too.
These areas are often more expensive than Central Reading, which suggests home-movers are not choosing them for price alone. Larger homes, quieter surroundings, transport links and more of a village feel may all be shaping demand.
Dave Sayce, Founder and Managing Director, said:
“Caversham and Twyford are both known for having more of a village feel, while still being close to the amenities of Central Reading.
“Twyford’s transport links have become a major selling point in recent years, especially with the Elizabeth line providing quick and easy access to both Reading and London. That is likely one of the reasons we have seen such a strong increase in home-movers.
“Caversham is also just a short bus ride from the town centre, and in some parts it is within walking distance. While the areas seeing the biggest rise in demand tend to have higher house prices than Central Reading, the homes are often larger too.
“With housing in the centre generally more dense, these surrounding areas can offer bigger family homes without giving up easy access to the centre, which is a major part of their appeal.”
What the Data Shows
Central Reading remains the most popular area overall, but the strongest growth is happening in suburbs, villages and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Caversham, Twyford, West Reading, Goring & Streatley and Tilehurst all saw demand rise, despite many of them having higher average house prices than Central Reading.
For anyone planning a move in Reading, the data shows why it is worth looking beyond the town centre. House prices, rent, transport, property size, lifestyle and long-term affordability can all affect which area feels right.
